Since PVC joinery is made from polyethylene (polyvinyl chloride) or plastic, which is inherently a fairly lightweight material, the weight of the profile is extremely important. A lighter profile will have more difficulty supporting the entire window structure, while a heavier profile, logically, will support it more easily and provide significantly greater security and longevity for the joinery.
Besides weight, the width of the PVC profile is another crucial detail in the selection. The wider the profile, the stronger it is, offering better thermal and sound insulation, and allowing for the installation of higher quality glass. Each profile consists of a certain number of transverse, air chambers that are separated by plastic partitions. Typically, five-chamber and six-chamber systems are used, with profile widths of 70-76mm or 83-88mm.
A greater number of chambers, but with smaller chamber widths and thinner partitions, results in less insulation, and the costs of the profile itself, as well as later energy costs, are higher. Quality is essential, not quantity.
Visible profile walls are those on the outside or inside of the profile, while invisible transverse walls are located inside the profile.
According to European standards, and based on the thickness of the visible and invisible profile walls, all profiles are divided into three classes:

Class A – where the thickness of visible walls is at least 2.8 mm, and invisible walls are 2.5 mm;

Class B – with the thickness of visible walls at least 2.5 mm, and invisible walls 2 mm;

Class C – where the thickness of both types of walls is below that of Class A and B, representing the least popular profile class.

The basis of every PVC window or door is the PVC profile, or in simpler terms, the frame or sash.
